METAL CHAMBER
8PM, October 6, 2008
Drinko Hall, Cleveland State University

Linda AthertonThe Cleveland Chamber Collective is tearing down the barriers between the audience and classical music. Those who think classical is boring or pretentious are in for a surprising adventure when the Collective takes the stage with their latest project; Metal Chamber.

Described by one member as the “confluence of rock rhythms and contemporary musical vocabulary,” Metal Chamber will not be your typical concert. This is classical music that grabs you by the collar. The pieces written for this show were specifically crafted to reach out to the rock listener, complete with thrashing riffs and sonic pyrotechnics. The goal was to create something that was accessible, but still true to the composer’s artistic expectations. The Collective hopes that first-time listeners will become excited by the project and seek out other kinds of contemporary classical music making.
